The NRA and its fans have done what they can over the years to prevent research on gun violence.
In spite of these attempts at censorship over the years, a majority of states --along with the federal government -- have succeeded in coming up with evidence that shows concealed carry "compounds the risks to innocent lives, particularly as state legislatures, bowing to the gun lobby, invite more citizens to venture out naïvely with firearms in more and more public places, including restaurants, churches and schools," according to the New York Times editorial board.
What should really worry us is the gratuitous shootings by concealed carriers who seek out human targets. They're out there with their concealed weapons with the purpose of finding targets who look like they might be "up to something..."
Recent concealed-carry excesses include legal shooters charged by the police with recklessly pegging a few wild shots at shoplifters and other nonviolent suspects they see fleeing on public streets. This is dangerous vigilantism that endangers communities, the police warn, not the mythic self-defense being peddled as concealed carry. ...NYT
