Here is Darren Wilson in a photo taken just after the shooting. He looks younger and more vulnerable than I expected. The angle of the photo is kind of interesting -- it's taken from above, not straight on. He looks like a kid, maybe 5'10' -- somewhere in there -- and 170 lbs or less?
Funny about photo angles.
Officer Wilson was up against a gi-normous hulk. Michael Brown was a hulk, the size of a football player or more and overweight. He was 6'4" and weighed in at 292. No wonder Wilson was scared of him.
In Wilson's testimony, he seemed to over-emphasize the look on Brown's face. Aggression! Demon! Sure, but it also could have been fear, exacerbated by Wilson's demeanor and the fact that he was armed and shooting.
And then comes the truth. Turns out cute little officer Wilson is, in fact, 6'4" and weighs 210. That comes straight out of Wilson's testimony before the grand jury. Same basic size as Brown, minus the fat.
Six bullets.
Not disabled, killed.
Victim unarmed.
All these little facts ...
If the reaction to the grand jury's decision -- coast to coast, as it quickly became -- knocks heads together and worse, that may be just what we need to draw our attention to real, not fantasy, America.
