For this liberal, it was a nasty shock coming back to the US after two decades among normal people to find that a couple of generations of liberals had decided that they were going conservative on how one should think, eat, dress and who should be disdained. The new thought police! Just what America needed! Believe me, even this wholefoodista joins Bill Maher in his pickup, with his shotgun at the ready, and with his Lynyrd Skynyrd turned up loud, "looking for a farmer's market to shoot up. "
Liberals had become illiberal, snotty, and quite possibly -- as Maher suggests -- the cause of the Republican surge. If the Supreme Court was responsible for the George Bush presidency, liberals were responsible for the jerk's reelection.
Who would have thought, back before snotty liberals took over what started out to be a social revolution in the '60's, that liberals would ever become so holier-than-thou. Liberals are supposed to be liberal. Ease up, for pete's sake!
