"No end in sight for federal shutdown," according to a headline at The Hill. And then we're told it's all going according to Ted Cruz's "playbook." Too bad we can't use drones over Capitol Hill.
“This whole Congress has been on ‘Cruz control’ for the last few weeks,” Rep. Pat Meehan (R-Pa.) lamented Tuesday. ...The Hill
Yuk.
Now the Extremes have realized that shutdown of the parks, for heaven's sake, is making them unpopular with voters, so...
“Let’s fund a continuing resolution funding the interior, keeping the parks open. Let’s one at a time demonstrate the same bipartisan cooperation we saw today with the military and address all of these people that he’s holding out as are going to suffer,” said Cruz, who referenced legislation signed by Obama on Monday that would pay the military in the event of a shutdown. ...The Hill
Per a phone conversation I had yesterday with a die-hard Republican in Cruz's home state, I'm learning that Republicans are fine-tuning their dislikes. It's not so much Washington; it's not so much politics; it's "me" politics in Washington. It is increasingly clear even to Texas Republicans that a guy like Senator Ted Cruz isn't playing politics on their behalf but in service to his own career ambitions.
I said what most disgusted me is that members of Congress are paid during the shutdown while federal workers are not being paid. There was an explosion at the other end of the phone from an otherwise godly Texan.
