Well, at least two counties in Tennessee. Ed Schultz is fulminating, and Talking Points Memo has posted the news.
Conservatives and Tea Party activists in Tennessee have recently pushed several Republican Party county organizations to pass resolutions criticizing the state’s Republican governor for, among other things, employing Muslims, gay people, and Democrats.
“The action or actions of the Republican elected Governor of the Great State of Tennessee and his administration have demonstrated a consistent lack of conservative values,” a resolution passed by the Stewart County Republican Party reads in part, according to a copy obtained by The Tennessean. ...TPM
Here's The Tennessean:
County chapters of the state Republican Party are circulating resolutions condemning Gov. Bill Haslam for not backing gun legislation, refusing to sign an anti-United Nations resolution and recruitment practices that include retaining an openly gay staffer and hiring a Muslim woman.
The Williamson County Republican Party, the Stewart County Republican Party, the Carroll County Republican Party and perhaps several others have adopted resolutions critical of Haslam. Stewart and Carroll County call for the State Executive Committee to take “appropriate action against the administration of Governor Bill Haslam.”
The resolution, which was initiated by tea party activists, does not specify what that action might be, but they lay out eight grievances. They include the Department of Economic and Community Development’s hiring of a Muslim-American lawyer to head its international trade office, retaining workers from the Bredesen administration, letting gay individuals work in the Department of Children’s Services and not signing the legislature’s denouncement of Agenda 21, a 20-year-old United Nations planning document on sustainability that some claim is secretly a communist plot against America.
The Williamson County Republican Party’s resolution condemns Haslam only for the hiring of the Muslim lawyer. It says Haslam has “elevated and/or afforded preferential political status to Sharia adherents in Tennessee.”
Muslims and gays seem to be at the top of the black list. But Democrats are on there, too. One country resolution demands that the governor fire Democrats hired by the former governor.
