As we calculate the impact of Jeb Bush's sudden appearance as a Romney backer, shouldn't we take into account not only that there has been a string of moral failures through two to three generations of men in the Bush family? And shouldn't we consider -- very seriously -- that Jeb Bush was governor of Florida when that "stand your ground" law was signed? "Stand your ground" is the law protecting the crazy shooter of the ice-tea-swilling school kid -- Trayvon Martin -- about three weeks ago. Unless I've missed an update during the time it took to put four new tires on the car, the perp is still walking free, all thanks to a Bush signature on a law which says, "Aw, g'wan! Shoot the bastard if you don't like his appearance!"
The New York Times has the news and the background here. But a good deal more interesting than the Times report are a couple of comments (so far) on the news. For example:
I fear for the future of our great country. The announcement of Olympia Snowe not to run again should be viewed like the dead canary in the cage ... where is reasonableness and compromise, where is personal and institutional integrity, where is the loyalty to others than one's self, where is honest, hard work and sacrifice?
