Romney has flaws, for sure. The Romney-bot isn't the most attractive candidate -- damn right! But most of all, Romney is a coward and has been all along. It's taken Steve Benen to point it out this key problem with the Romney candidacy.
Apparently an online pundit called Obama a president who's "all-too-willing to avoid making tough decisions" so Benen blows him out of the water. He points, among other things, to the elements of health care reform and the push behind financial reform, the Detroit rescue, the bin Laden offensive, a very cool, well-planned and effective intervention in Libya, and the handling of Boehner et al. over debt reduction.
You can disagree with the president's gutsy political decisions, but you can't deny he made them.
If pundits were looking for actual example of a politician reluctant to make tough decisions, loath to challenge his party’s core constituencies, and generally lacking in political bravery, could there possibly be a better example than Mitt Romney? The former governor, unlike the president, appears to be a genuine coward.
Romney’s afraid of journalists; he’s afraid of scrutiny; he’s afraid of saying something that might cost him votes; he’s afraid to take stands on all kinds of issues; and he’s afraid of all of his previous personas and disregarded worldviews. The guy is practically allergic to valor, and he considers “courage of one’s convictions” to be more of a punch-line than a principal.
He’s running for office, for Pete’s sake. ...Political Animal
