I was thinking how much the past year has felt like flying in a hijacked plane, only this time it's a flight whose passengers are passive, not at all like the passengers of flight 93 over Pennsylvania. There appears to be no chance of taking the initiative away from the hijackers even though they are, in a real sense, in the minority.
You'd think we would have at least risked to end extremists' hold on our politics, our financial and economic well-being. Their apparent desire is to destroy the country though they'd protest saying something like "We must burn it to save it."
Tomorrow and the next day we'll read about the outcome of the Wisconsin recall elections. Is it possible that, whatever the outcome, whatever happens in Wisconsin will spark some useful response in the rest of us hostages?
