The Supreme Court on Tuesday affirmed without comment a ruling upholding a ban on so-called soft-money contributions to political parties. Justices Anthony M. Kennedy, Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas voted to hear the case.
In other words, the Supreme Court okays a continuing ban on soft money ("McCain-Feingold") in spite of its scurrilous ruling on Citizens United.
In a blog post, Richard L. Hasen, an authority on election law at Loyola Law School in Los Angeles, said, “This is only temporary good news for those who think the soft-money ban is an important anticorruption component of federal campaign finance law.”
The soft money could be revisited later. Fuller explanation here.
