So BP screwed up again. There's more oil flowing into the Gulf. Honest, they didn't mean to do it. They're really good at heart.
As though that's not enough for one of the humpiest Wednesdays in history, David Petraeus is b-a-a-c-k. He's cute, he's competent, but he's a warrior. We're stuck in Afghanistan. Is it possible to junk Robert Gates? Surely he could have and should have slammed the lid on McChrystal each time the general "mis-spoke." Obama said, "“I welcome debate among my team, but I won’t tolerate division.” Exactly. Gates might have gotten off his ...swivel chair and said that a long time ago.
Greg Sargent thinks the president did the right thing. Most important, though, "On one level, Obama was making it clear that this is about something larger than merely reasserting his own authority. But it was also a tacit acknowledgment that tensions between the military and civilian leadership are endangering the mission." This isn't an Obama problem. This has been around for decades and the myth has grown that (shhh, you know!) the military know how to run things and civilians just get in the way. Abu Ghraib never happened; drones don't kill civilians; that murdering nutcase up in Killeen is the fault of the Obama administration, not the military bosses who didn't bother to check out his creds. Etc. etc.
Let's face it. The Army (and the rest of the services) are pretty bad at dealing with their own leadership. Officers are allowed to live in a bubble.
