Under pressure from his own party -- that's the Grand Oil Party, of course -- Texas blowhard, Rep. Joe Barton, took back his remarks about BOP having been subjected to a "shakedown" by the White House.
Barton now returns to being one of the "small people."
In his statement, Barton said, "I apologize for using the term 'shakedown' with regard to yesterday's actions at the White House in my opening statement this morning, and I retract my apology to BP...I regret the impact that my statement this morning implied that BP should not pay for the consequences of their decisions and actions in this incident." ...WaPo
Note: This couldn't possibly be a purely political move, having nothing to do with ethics and civility, could it? The GOP has to be aware that a lot of people have begun to track contributions to individual members of Congress and Ol' Joe Barton is a pretty Oily Texan. He's a Good Friend of BP.
