The Democratic proposal to cut the deficit is terrific.
The proposal that a bipartisan commission do the job is pure nonsense. Haven't Democratic members of Congress noticed that Republicans don't want anything that a) would improve the country's financial well being and b) give the Democratic majority a win?
During the Bush years, a Republican Congress and Republican president created the deficit. If they care so much about deficits, why did they take a surplus and turn it into a deficit? A Democratic Congress and president should reduce it. Health care reform will certainly help.
Withdrawing from Afghanistan, closing bases, cutting the Pentagon's budget, and enforcing the collection of corporate taxes would go a long way to repairing the money mess.
