You probably had the same reaction I did -- enough already!
But the New York Times ethicist, Randy Cohen, makes an interesting case for a suit against the Cambridge police department. The more I read, the more I realized that we have been invaded by the immoral "bad apple" theory, a theory which allows people in positions of authority to do what they will and then blame their actions later on someone further down in the organization. So enough of that already! Let's at least hear what Cohen has to say.
Makes sense to me, particularly in a society in which there has been one incident after another in big city cops' handling of issues involving non-white (but some white, too) people. Maybe there are a couple fewer now than in, say, the '40's, but some change isn't enough. The culture of playing power games against society's designated outsiders is a thread in our history that we need to cut.
