NPR yesterday described John McCain, attending the signing of a White House memorandum reversing the Bush administration's policy of no-bid contracts, as having a grim smile on his face. Grim, we were to understand, because of the august Arizona senator's horror at the pork in the recovery bill. Oh dear. Are we supposed to forget that Senator McCain was a leader in Congress during the administration whose corruption is now a memorable feature of eight corrupt years? Where was congressional oversight as that money was going out the door? Is it unfair to ask John McCain about his campaign's spending on Ms. Palin's wardrobe and cosmetic expenses -- enough to end a bunch of foreclosures?
