Sunny day, low eighties. This is the first day of early voting at the county courthouse. Didn't expect a wait, but there was a wait of maybe ten minutes. Fortunately, we live in a very well-organized county, one which has not accepted voting machines.
Civility prevails. Two women at desk check us in carefully and swiftly. The good ol' paper ballot is familiar. Little ovals to fill in with that nice, soft pencil. Little adjoining booths made from plywood with adequate privacy, kind of like taking an exam in school. On the extended ballot, plenty of hispanic names plus two old anglo names: Sam Houston and Daniel Boone. Seriously.
Back out into the central hall where more people are lining up. Down the steps into the shade of the ancient live oaks. No prob.
