The deal looks pretty close to signed, sealed and delivered, to the rage of about 2/3 of all Americans and many members of Congress -- most notably Republicans. What's bizarre in the middle of all this is the sight of a somewhat senile and desperate John McCain breathing heavily, trying to make his presence felt in the White House, Senate, and in the headlines.
This is a man who went a long way to create the current crisis. He rejected regulation, control, and oversight during his whole career in the Senate. Now there's experience for you, like a guy doing a 20-year stretch in federal prison for illegal financial dealings claiming "experience" in judicial matters.
McCain seems scared stiff of those presidential debates. They offer an opportunity to question (and publicize) his votes which are 180° from recent claims. He must have been hoping Friday's debate would go away or that, at the very least, he could sweep in, trionfante!, having been to Washington to "close the deal." Word is out that the deal is mostly made. That must take the wind out of the sails of candidate who's having a hard time figuring out how to control and (better) stifle Obama.
