No no no. America would never sit down with Iran.
No. If America sits down with Iran, it's because someone else is pushing America to the table.
Maliki set this up all by himself.
Otherwise, no no no.
Which is what you heard if you caught Rush Limbaugh today. Meanwhile, over at that leftwing den of iniquity, the New York Times, Richard Oppel has this to report:
The willingness of American officials to attend the March 10 security conference along with Syrian and Iranian officials has been widely seen as reflecting a decision by the Bush administration to yield to critics who have argued that it should no longer avoid high-level contacts with Tehran. But Bush officials insist that their policy has not changed... An Iraqi deputy foreign minister, Labid Abawi, asserted in an interview with The Associated Press late Wednesday that Syria, Iran, and Saudi Arabia, as well as the United States and Britain, have all informed Iraq that they plan to attend. France, Russia, China and Turkey are also among the nations invited.
Do you really think America had nothing to do with this, Rush? Particularly given that Oppel has this to report: "The top Iranian national security official, Ali Larijani, indicated Wednesday that Iranian officials would probably take part in a regional security conference..."
That tells me the US intends to be there; the Iranians will probably be there. Hmm. I see room for a little embarrassment on the rightwing talk circuit a month or so from now.
Well, every silver lining has a cloud...
