The coverage of Bush's push to invade Iraq -- and most particularly the War Resolution -- is examined today by Greg Mitchell at Editor & Publisher, and (as most of us knew all along) the majority of newspapers chose fellatio over probità. Since then, both the media and the members of Congress who went along with the War Resolution have been given a pass.
Walter Pincus has started what one hopes may be a widespread reassessment in an article which takes a backward look at the Democrats who stood up and opposed the Resolution and what leadership positions they will be given now that Democrats are in the majority. He notes that Ike Skelton (new chair, Armed Services Committee) urged a serious postwar strategy as did David Obey (Appropriations).
It's heartening that west Texas Congressman, Silvestre Reyes, who opposed the Iraq war, will ascend to the chair of the House Intelligence Committee.
