I think the split in the Democratic Party has happened. Some just don't want to acknowledge it. It may cost the Dems a couple of elections -- well, no, though that's what the current conservative leadership would blame any losses on. I think the split is healthy in the long run and may lead to a unity and vigor the Party hasn't seen in years. Not to mention a leadership which actually knows who its constituents are and where they're going.
One thing is clear to me: what Washington's in-house Democratic leadership thinks the Party's "grass roots" consist of and what they are in fact made up of are two very different critters. I'll stick with reality, not zip 20003 astroturf.
