Prestigious? How so?

Sheesh! 

The National Press Club hasn't been what you could call "prestigious" for several years. Maybe never.  I don't think that has been their intention, really.  Sometimes they're funny.  Sometimes they're a bit beery.  They always seem to be just the teensiest bit sophmoric wouldn't you agree.... 

So when I read someone questioning the NPC's prestigiousness because Jeff Gannon/James Guckert will be on a panel there,  I wonder if that person has been watching them or listening to their broadcasts lately.  You honestly think the press, which has betrayed itself and its readers/listeners/watchers so consistently for half a dozen years, miraculously becomes "prestigious" over occasional rubber chicken lunches?

Nahhh......!

Update: Billmon and I could probably get together for a beer to discuss this and not come to fisticuffs...   But I'm a lot more cynical.

Hitler's psychological profile

Cornell Law Library has just given online access (PDF) to Henry Murray's psychological profile of Hitler.  Murray, who was director of the Harvard Psychological Clinic before World War II, was recruited by the OSS to do the profile.  It's an important document still.
