Being held in a cruel prison camp for years is no one's idea of fun. But it doesn't guarantee you a moral pass for the rest of your life. Certainly there's not an admirable cell left in John McCain's body. If ever there was, it has been killed by his response to the mother of an Aurora victim. From Talking Points Memo:
"My 24-year-old son, Alex, was murdered in a movie theater in Aurora, Colo.," Caren Teves said. "These assault rifles allow the shooter to fire many rounds without having to reload. These weapons to do not belong on our streets."
"I can tell you right now you need some straight talk. That assault weapons ban will not pass the Congress of the United States," McCain responded. The video, posted Thursday by Phoenix's KTVK, showed the line drawing applause and cheers from the crowd.
"Now I have to -- I owe it to to you, I owe it to give you my opinion. Because a majority of members of Congress don't support it," McCain added. ...TPM
If anyone needs some straight talk, it's Senator McCain. Maybe Gabby Giffords (or her husband) will do the job of telling him where to get off... and then run to replace him in the Senate. Maybe the reason why he's being a real prick in town hall meetings, on the Senate floor, and in committee meetings is because he plans to retire.
