Congressional Republicans in the middle and on the right-hand side of their party are just no good at things Americans are expected to get good at, things like democracy, civility, and working for a living. The president said today in a TV interview:
"They say that their biggest priority is making sure that we deal with the deficit in a serious way, but the way they're behaving is that their only priority is making sure that tax breaks for the wealthiest Americans are protected. That seems to be their only overriding, unifying theme." ...via Political Wire
Well, the tax breaks for sure. And let's not forget that they're dependent on their patrons . The very people who are able to afford the classy bookkeeping that gives them much lower taxes often wind up in tax brackets below those of workingAmerica. A lot of what they save goes straight into Republican campaign coffers.
It doesn't buy down the deficit, that's for sure. And it doesn't give us representatives who represent us, much less do the job they're paid to do. First Gingrich, now Beohner and McConnell.
The 104th Congress (1995-1996) currently holds the ignominious distinction of being the least productive session of Congress ... Just 333 bills became law during that two-year period, meaning the 112th Congress needs to send nearly 100 more bills to Obama's desk in the next few days if it wants to avoid going down in history -- an unlikely prospect, considering that both chambers are squarely focused on averting the 'fiscal cliff' before the new year. ...HuffPo via Political Wire
