Really! She' s not a liar but she told me the weirdest story this morning. It was back in about the first decade or so of the 2000's -- maybe 2012, somewhere in there -- when things were still pretty awful and there was racism and the threat of a corporate takeover of government and they still used oil. Anyway, she was online, buying a hemp-based body lotion.
One of the other people online typed, "I wouldn't touch that stuff. It has pot in it!" I mean, pot was outlawed by the federal government. They could do that back then! Pot was supposed to be dangerous!
I didn't believe her, but she hauled out an old clipping:
I mean, can you imagine? In excerpts from an exclusive 20/20 interview that airs Friday night, ABC News reports that Obama still does not “at this point” support widespread legalization of marijuana, but that shifting public opinion and limited federal resources are reasons to find middle ground:
"We’ve got bigger fish to fry … It would not make sense for us to see a top priority as going after recreational users in states that have determined that it’s legal.
This is a tough problem, because Congress has not yet changed the law. I head up the executive branch; we’re supposed to be carrying out laws. And so what we’re going to need to have is a conversation about, How do you reconcile a federal law that still says marijuana is a federal offense and state laws that say that it’s legal?" ...Think Progress
