The White House Xmas tree comes from North Carolina. Nothing against North Carolina where I would much rather live than in, say, Vermont, New Hampshire, or Maine. But when it comes to the tree, the only real Christmas tree is cut in one of those states.
To tell the truth, I don't like the idea of cutting trees down at all. The idea of taking a tree indoors, putting it in a cruel stand and screwing it in tightly, then piling a bunch of kitsch on its dying branches, is more than this human can bear.
