Fox poll shows Obama has big lead

Independents are supporting to Obama.

According to the Fox News poll, Obama takes 49 percent to Romney's 40 nationally.

The Fox News poll follows two others released this week, from CNN-ORC and Reuters-Ipsos, that gave Obama a 7-point lead over Romney. Both the Fox and CNN polls point to a jump in support for Obama among independents. According to the Fox News poll, Obama's support among that voting bloc went from a 4-point lead in its last survey to 11 percentage points in this one.

And by the way, the choice of Rubio, Ryan, or McDonnell has the Dems "salivating."

Democrats want Mitt Romney to make a bold but risky pick for his running mate — someone they could exploit on the campaign trail.

Strategists suggested Wednesday that the choice of popular candidates like House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) or Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell could all excite Romney's conservative base — but provide plenty of fodder for President Obama's reelection campaign.

"When you pick wrong they can be a drag — Dan Quayle was a drag, Sarah Palin was a drag," said Democratic strategist Doug Thornell. "They rarely help much, but when it's the wrong pick it can really hurt." ...The Hill
