San Francisco has a public option -- Health San Francisco -- and it's been enormously successful. The premium is about $260. This public insurance plan has been so successful that a couple of months ago Kaiser Permanente asked to join it.

There are significant nationwide efforts -- protests, demonstrations, etc. -- in favor of the public option, but the media aren't covering them.
