Bill Clinton a hero to McCain's campaign aide
Steve Schmidt, spawn of the devil or at least a Karl Rove offspring and aide to John McCain, is all for Bill Clinton. In an interview at Politico, he waxed enthusiastic.
"Schmidt sees a sort of political soul mate in Bill Clinton. 'Say whatever you want about Bill Clinton,' Schmidt said, 'but it's deeply unfair to suggest his criticism of Obama was race-based. President Clinton was a force for unity in this country on this subject. Every American should be proud of his record as both a governor and president. But we knew it was coming in our direction because they did it against a President of the United State of their own party.'"
Of course, it's also deeply unfair to believe John McCain's campaign would ever employ racist language or images. Right? Just in case, though, the Obama campaign has launched this new website.
In the meantime, the New York Times editorial nails the McCain campaign.
"Well, that certainly didn’t take long. On July 3, news reports said Senator John McCain, worried that he might lose the election before it truly started, opened his doors to disciples of Karl Rove from the 2004 campaign and the Bush White House. Less than a month later, the results are on full display. The candidate who started out talking about high-minded, civil debate has wholeheartedly adopted Mr. Rove’s low-minded and uncivil playbook. ...
"...Many voters are wondering whether a McCain presidency would be an extension of Mr. Bush’s two disastrous terms. If the way Mr. McCain is running his campaign these days is an indication, Americans don’t have to wait until next January for the answer to that one."
