Jesus is black. Merging Marxism with Christian Gospel may show the way to a better tomorrow. The white church in America is the Antichrist because it supported slavery and segregation.
Those are some of the more provocative doctrines that animate the theology at the core of Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, Barack Obama's church. ...McClatchy ...
Wait a minute! Wait a minute! Are we crazy, or are these statements lifted from "divisive" sermons at the Trinity United Church of Christ actually true?
Was Jesus "black"? Well, he lived in a place where most people were darker in skin color than, say, Halle Berry or Barack Obama -- both of whom are in America's eyes "black." So yes, by the standard used in America, Jesus was black, not the misty-blue-eyed man with long blond curls we so often see in American and European depictions of the prophet. Wright, 1; critics, 0.
Merging Marxism... From what we remember of reading Marx (it was some time ago), much of what he wrote came straight out of Judeo-Christian beliefs. Not many Americans know much about Karl Marx. That may account for the misunderstanding. Reverend Wright, a church leader preaching to a congregation of professors and teachers, is a man who is almost certainly better read and informed than most. So now, Wright, 2; critics, 0.
The white church in American is the anti-Christ ... Why on earth do so many of us stand in deep opposition to the white church in America? Because of its history of patent hypocrisy. There's no way around it. Christ would weep. Look at the Southern churches during segregation and during MLK's movement. Look at where the Klan members had their meetings. And not just in the South. Look at attendance in white churches in the North -- it's largely...white! Christ, entering such a church, might well get some inquiring looks. So finally: Wright, 3; critics, 0.
Come on. This whole "controversy" is a concoction of white rage and guilt amped up by political opponents and the media. It feeds on white Americans' ignorance and resentment. We may not embrace everything Reverend Wright has reportedly said, but he's a lot closer to the truth (from what we've seen so far) than most. He deserves a lot more respect and much more informed (and humble) attention than he's been given so far.
When we read stuff about Wright and black churches, we might want to keep in mind that white Christian chapels were built over basements that served as holding grounds for Africans during their journey to America's slave auctions and slave owners. White Christians need to answer for their collaboration with racism and ignorance before they punish Reverend Wright for telling some home truths.
To take the Marxism point a step further how about Acts 4:32:
The literalists always seem to miss that one.

Nice one. And not just the literalists. Maybe a new denomination is needed for America: Christian Church of Political Convenience.
