Fasten your seatbelts: The Justices "have been ordered to sign a provisional Constitutional order enabling an emergency decree..."

Some warned Bush would do this sooner or later, but so soon? 

Witnesses said that police forces had surrounded the Supreme Court building, with justices still inside. Earlier, the justices were ordered to sign a provisional constitutional order enabling the emergency decree, with the government leaving implicit that any failing to do so would be dismissed.

Is Cheney's hand behind this?  Isn't the timing odd?

Wait a minute.  This is not happening in Washington.  It's happening in Islamabad.  Almost as bad.  Pakistan has been an important, corrupt, treacherous, undemocratic, autocratic, nuclear ally of the US for decades.  Chickens are coming home to roost at a time when Turkey is edging towards Kurdistan and Cheney et al. are salivating over Iran. The worst are full of passionate intensity.

In the coming days the Supreme Court had been expected to rule on the constitutionality of General Musharraf’s re-election as president last month and of his ability to serve as both the country’s president and military leader.

Musharraf will not leave anything to chance -- or leave quietly.  He does not want to cede power.
