Not "on the verge." Straight out civil war.

Listening to radio reports this morning, I was struck by the reporters' reference to civil war in Iraq without the usual modifiers:  "Some say Iraq appears to be on the verge of civil war."   They were saying it, short and sweet:  civil war. 

The New York Times, in an article posted early this morning, still hedges its bets: "...trying to steer the country away from exploding into full-fledged civil war..."

Whatever. While most news sources still creep unwillingly towards the truth, I think we ought to be saying that Bush has invaded a sovereign nation and left it with civil war.  And that's not truthiness.
