It's about the issues
John Edwards is fully engaged now in working (with Center on Poverty, Work and Opportunity at the University of North Carolina) on eradicating poverty in America. He just said, "No one in America who is working fulltime should be living in poverty. It's immoral." And he's right. This morning I heard that 15% of those employed fulltime in New York are living in abject poverty. As Edwards says, the last thing we want to do is shut down global trade. But absolutely have to build into any trade agreements rock-solid protections for workers.
There's a lot of talk about Gore's speech yesterday. It was a fine speech and it hit on some important issues. And I think it was largely ignored by the media. Here in blogsville, there's too much about personalities and not enough about the issues and action. The left should have at hand now, not just before November, a clear understanding of what the main issues are, how Republican leadership has let us down, and why the right cannot be allowed to lead anymore.
